One rods bead length?

I am wondering if the info here is correcthttp://www.rodovens.com/welding_arti...techniques.htmThey say one rod should produce 1 inch of weld bead. That seems short to me. I end up with about 3 inches of bead for each rod.
Reply:seems like a dumb statement. i can depending on travel speed get  a lot  more from a rod..depends i guess on the width of the bead you are laying down. to use a rod and get a one inch bead i think it would be a pretty wide bead.
Reply:Yeah that is really dumb.  What I learned in school was basically if you burnt down 8 inches of rod you should have close to 8 inches of weld (with stringers).
Reply:Might be 3 inches if your weaving going and 9-12" when your running flat. Too many variables to say exactly. My guess is that they might of made a typo a foot instead of an inch makes mor sense.Tough as nails and damn near as smart
Reply:I don't think it was a typo it says it further down the page, after reading it they are just trying to sell you a rod oven.  I think they had some kid in the office write a bit of script and he couldn't read the notes he had to write from.  Back in trade school they told us that you should be able to make a weld the same length as the amount of the rod used, haven't found that to be completely accurate, as stated above, there's just too many variables.- If you can jump across it you can weld it!  - anonymous old boilermaker

Reply:If you're only getting 3" of weld from a rod, you are doing several things wrong.The website mentioned is a literal font of bad information.As my Dear Old Dad used to say, "don't believe everything you read".JTMcC.
Reply:I sent them an email letting them know their information is incorrect and misleading. I think the info on keeping rods other than low hydrogen rods dry is also an error. Most likely to help sell rod ovens.
