poor mans mag drill

I need to get some pics for you.I have an old Thor 3/4" drill with a broken handle but runs like a charm.I I took an old screw type jack, think it came off a VW or Volvo.and made an adaptor plate to hold the drill. Added a footplate to the bottom of the jack.Position the drill,tack the footplate to the work,turn the jack handle and drill away!Snap the tack weld,clean up the work and footplate with the grinder and go to the next hole.It may look funky but it's paid for!tractor,loader.dozer,backhoe,and all the tools to keep em movin

Reply:In some ways tack welded home-brews are better than a mag-drill. More compact base, and higher push-off resistance.Good Luck

I've got what looks like a home made mag drill. I forget but I think I got it off ebay years ago. It's got a air motor and a permanent magnet base. Someone spent a bunch of time making it out of aluminum from what I can tell. The problem is that the permanent magnet doesn't have enough grip to do much. Along with the fact that it just picks up metal dust and chips. However I think it would be a great candidate for making a vacuum chuck base for.   Just another one of the thousands of projects on my waiting list.
