Ever since I saw one of these things at camp earlier this year I wanted to make one. I know how easy it would have been to buy one or just get a large skillet, but I like doing things the hard way. I put an A.P.B. out on facebook for an old plow disc and last week a friend came through with one. After a quick work over with wire brush, I cut out a 1/4" chunk of steel to fill the hole that once attached the disc to the gang.I used a couple of hay hooks to make the handles, with that I had $7.50 tied up in my wok. I had a hard time running a bead on this though. As you can see, I just piled the weld on. I deserve a lecture on that mess. After a good work over with the flap disc to get the inside of the wok smooth I gave it a good scrubbing, then boiled some water in it, then another good soap and water scrubbing before I began to season it.I used crisco to wipe it down top and bottom and just kept flipping it. A few beers help with this process. It seemed to work, but I'm sure there are better ways. Today we broke it in with a mess of chicken fajitas. Turned out well although I got it to hot and had some sticking. Matter of fact I was using to the spoon to stir the chicken around and ended up sending one over the edge for the dog to grab. I guess I need practice. We'll end up pre-seasoning some meat and vacuum packing it to freeze and use when we're going to be out in the woods all day. The size of this wok will make it easy to cook up allot of food real fast. I just hope I can still lift it in 10 years.
Reply:Very nice work. Woks also make awesome fish friers. They cut down on the amount of grease that has to be used.Keep up the good work.Yes I can tack it for you. Here's some bacon and chorizo going on two of them. We just add the eggs to the chorizo and throw some tortillas on the sides of the wok to heat them up. Impressive way to feed folks quickly.

Reply:Sweet idea. Inre the welds. Hey, does it do what ya want it to do? Is the customer satisfied? Doesn't have to pass any tests does it?
