in my welding class today we have been doing short-circuit mig on 1/8" mild grade with .035 wire welding t and butt joint vertical up, at first did not like because i suck at weaving but i tried the z-weave and eventuially got the t joint to look almost perfect, very consistent but still a little too convex for my taste, does any body have any tips for making the bead looking more flush17.7 volts215 wire speedalso square groove butt joint tips would be nice, way too convex  and no penetration
Reply:With a vert up weave, in order to get it to be flatter, pause more at the sides and go quicker through the middle.  That is the best way to make it less convex.
Reply:Triangle sometimes called Christmas tree weave.  Only works on a fillet.The metal follows the heat, so when you hit the center, it "sucks the belly in"  Here is an attempt at a video.   Its kind of hard to see, but you will get the idea.  This is pulsed spray, but it works with Mig, and Stick too.[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7V5OCnL48o[/ame]Here is a pic of the same weave.  1/2" fillet, .045 wire @ 145 Inches per minute, around 18 to 19 volts, Co2 gas.  David Last edited by David R; 01-27-2009 at 10:00 PM.Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
