Yeah, I know, RVer's have funny names for things. Toad as in towed vehicle. I bought a jeep a few weeks ago and decided to drag it with me on my annual trek to the mountains. I'm going on into Colorado this year and thought it would be handy on some of those mountain sightseeing trips. That Duramax is just too big and long for some places. First off was figuring out how to attach the towbar. Jeep changed some things in '07 and it was more difficult than with the older models. This is what I came up with.I cut the front skidbar out to use the square box  and bolted in 3/8" x 3" plate to each side of the box with the receiver tube sandwiched in between and welded solid, then a 1/4" x 2" piece was welded to the tube, box, and frame. Then the skid bar was cut to fit and welded to the inside plates. This is all that shows withoout the towbar in place. I didn't think anyone would be interested in a Harbor Freight towbar anyway. This is a bar to carry a highlift jack and shovel when I head for the boonies. I can also use it to push trailers around. Later I intend to add a hitch mounted winch and built the bar stout enough to handle that. THe bar is just stuck in the tubes and not all the way back to where it pins. After finishing that I built a rear receiver hitch for it also. I doubt I'll ever tow a trailer. The Duramax will do a much better job anyway. This is to mount the winch in the rear if needed. I'm also buildin a double gas can rack that will mount in the hitch. This whole project was built with iron that has been sitting here for years with the exception of the 4" channel iron used in the jack rack. Of course I had to buy the bolts and receiver tubes. Everything was welded with 3/32" and 1/8" Excailibur 7018. I used my old PowerCraft 230 crackerbox run thru a 300 amp PowerCraft DC converter. The only place I had any arc blow was on the outside of the rear hitch. Of course that is the only weld you can see.Last edited by Oldtimer; 06-25-2010 at 07:19 PM.

Reply:The pic's linked to URL location apparently has been fixed since my last post.  I see the Jeep pic now.  It was definately a house last night at 9:43pm when I made that post.  It is now a Jeep in all pics above.  I know I'm not going crazy and I can definately discern the difference between a mobile home with full length porch and trees in the yard from the frontend of a Jeep!Nice job on the jack mount, by the way, now that I can see it.  MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
