Looking for some help with sch 10 fused roots. I've welded in oil refineries the past 10 years, mostly carbon and SS sch 40 and above open root.My question is about the set up. Do you used a gap or are they butted together? Is the root pronounced or flat? probally gonna practice on 2 inch 316 sch 10. any other tips?thank you
Reply:I usually use a 1/16" gap and 1/16" filler. That seems to work well on the sched 10, if you do any sched 5, i would but them up together2 Trailblazer 302's2 HF251-D1'sDynasty 200DXLincoln Powermig 140CHypertherm Powermax 30Airco Torches out the a$$
Reply:I usually go for a 1/8" (3.2mm) gap and 3/32" (2.4mm) filler. This way I can weave more, making sure I get all the edges. When I have a choice I always make the root pronounced at 60° with a 0mm nose. Amp is about 60-80 depending on the nose. I'm sorry if the terminology is wrong, I dont know the exact words in english.NB! I usually weld in the horizontal position.Last edited by Speen; 02-02-2009 at 11:06 AM.
Reply:If you want to fuse the root (weld autogenously) then you need the pieces butted together- ain't going to able to fill gaps without filler!!
Reply:its a no filler test.2" Sch. 10 SS butt weld. Fused root with no filler. Then 3/32 cap. i'm guess'n that it needs to be butted together for this?
Reply:That is what it sounds like, i guess I didn't read what you were asking2 Trailblazer 302's2 HF251-D1'sDynasty 200DXLincoln Powermig 140CHypertherm Powermax 30Airco Torches out the a$$
Reply:when i build turbo manifolds i just butt them together fuse the root pass, then use 1/16 filler cap, but i obviously back purge. there are times where i occasionally have a gap and i use 1/16 filler. |
