Heres a small job I did recentely. Maybe something to look into for guys with smaller setups. The customer was trying to save money so he said I could only use what scrap he already had laying around. He had also already cut out the holes before I got there. Attached Images
Reply:He wanted to finish it himself and make the handles(to save money), but he was really happy and paid me an extra hour as a tip. Attached Images
Reply:Those handles will reach out & touch somebody when they least expect it. And without some leverage, once the grain is against the door, they will be hard to open. But, the customer wanted it, so do it their way. Nice job on the doors.MarkI haven't always been a nurse........Craftsman 12"x36" LatheEnco G-30B MillHobart Handler 175Lincoln WeldandPower 225 AC/DC G-7 CV/CCAdd a Foot Pedal to a Harbor Freight Chicago Electric 165A DC TIG PapaLion's Gate Build
Reply:I agree with Mark. If you have the time, try to Google up a pic of the old style Omaha grain beds. The doors have pretty substantial compound levers to open them, and they're usually centered in the main dump door. Most importantly, the levers help to close the door against the pressure too."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Unless the additional bolts welded on the outside edge of the main door are pivot points for a lever. I almost missed that"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Ever see a grain truck on a tip floor, pretty cool stuff. Can[t remember exactly how it works, but it looks really cool when the truck is nose to the sky"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Saw a pellet truck unloading wood pellets at Boise State University once. Tractor/trailer chocked & tied down, rear doors opened, ramp went up & 45,000 lbs of wood pellets dumped into the hopper in about 1 minute.Impressive to say the least.MarkI haven't always been a nurse........Craftsman 12"x36" LatheEnco G-30B MillHobart Handler 175Lincoln WeldandPower 225 AC/DC G-7 CV/CCAdd a Foot Pedal to a Harbor Freight Chicago Electric 165A DC TIG PapaLion's Gate Build

Reply:Yeah the outside bolts are for the lever to be. Its still not the best designs I was trying to talk him into putting them in the middle but thats the way he insisted on it. I did research other designs and suggested them to him but like I said he only wanted me to use the scrap he had laying around. The lift up designs would have used some bearings and pivetings connecting rods and taken a bit more time.
Reply:The slides the door works with look like odd scrap to have lying around. What kind of shape is that?
Reply:It was about 1/2 inch angle iron welded to a peice of flat bar. Not sure the exact measurements but you get the idea. Attached Images

Reply:When I was still driving OTR truck, I would pick up potatoes out in like Colorado or Wyoming and such, they loaded them in using a conveyor type potato throwing machine right onto the floor. When I would get back out east and unload, I would back the truck onto one of those lift/tilt docks, drop the trailer and they would lift the trailer up, dumping the potatoes, places like Campbell soup and others use that type of dock!First time I saw them use one, it was freaky to watch your trailer being emptied like a bag of potato chips! #1. Reply:Every time i have seen them floor load potato's into a box van or reefer they would actually do it with a conveyor with the truck ON the scale. The guys would know to show up with a full load of fuel and they would load them up to 79,750-79,900lbs gross.Vantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches. |
