I've been around welding for a number of years and have done some projects with my business but I am looking to get more serious about welding and improve my skills. Has anyone out there attended hayes, lincoln or hobart? I have also looked at community colleges but it seems like a slow process and I like the idea of 2-3 week intencive programs for a given process. Any thought? Thanks.

Reply:I did the TIG class at Lincoln. Here is a thread I did with a recap. It also has links in there to a few blog posts I did that gives a little more detail.http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=54503
Reply:I took a general Welding course at the Lincoln Electric School in Cleveland last year.It is the BEST.The instructors and the equipment are great.I would highly reccomend it to anybody that wants to weld.

Reply:I have to say before that i never went at a welding school by a welder company like Lincoln, i don't know what kind of diploma result of that, i've never been at an american welding school to, im in Canada and i did a college cours for trade, fitting and dwgs reading and now have a real diploma from a school! The only advice i can give you if to look what kind of paper you'll get after your cours, because some shop and compony dosen't matter about this paper, but you have payed to get this cours and i think its important to have an official diploma or something when you pay for a cours!Calculator > Bevel Square
Reply:I have been through the Hobart welding school. Im sure its pretty much about the same as lincoln or whatever but its was 40 minutes from my house and im not sure about lincoln but employers do respect the Hobart name on a welding resume.
Reply:I'm at community college in WA state and on track to get a AAS degree in Welding Fabrication Technology. The program is focused on getting the students certified in 5G, and 6G for SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, and GTAW, for either WABO or AWS certifications. We do not spend a lot of time on projects or "our art". To get a passing grade one needs to be completing a set of welding competencies leading up to test plates and bend tests. Our instructor is an AWS and State of WA CWI, with 35 years in fab shops and welding on nuke plants. Just prior to enrolling in school, a lot of misc.machinery was sold off to make room for more booths, better materials, and a fleet of modern Miller machines. Knowing what I know now, I would not bother attending a community college unless there is a CWI on the faculty and someone who can teach pipe welding. We weld five days a week from 630 to 11:00, then have an hour of print reading, theory, or metallurgy. Along the way, everybody learns to run a shear, press brake, track torch, and iron worker....not a lot fluff here.____________________Retro_shopLincoln V300 ProLincoln LN-25 w/ Tweco #4 gunCobramatic 150-003 w/ push-pull gunMiller Dynasty 200 |
