just would like to share my day with you guys. i had a awesome day in welding class this morning, tacked up my NY D.O.T plate ( 1" inch thick, 22.5 Degree bevels, 1/4" backing plate, 1/4" root gap ) and continued to practice my 7018 V-up ( last week i was certified in 7018 Overhead, which i was really stoked about!) and really got dialed in. I was at DC- at around 105 110 amps, the machine was running perfectly and i was making some really nice v- ups. my weave's too have improved. unfortunately i dont have any pictures ( my camera on my phone is bogus ), so believe it or not! My D.O.T test is on March 17th ( next Tuesday ) and i am really looking forward to it!Jordan
Reply:joscerb;keep those beads one rod diameter wide, unless they (dot) told you differently, because the wider you go with that 7018, slag inclusion is always possible, also KEEP THAT PLATE CLEAN ! and clean after every pass, and you should be well on your way to certification.good luck.mike.
Reply:yes sir, i clean after every pass, i use a wirewheel on a 4.5" angle grinder, my trusty wire brush, and a sharp center punch i 6010'd to a chipping hammer!i am looking forward to the d.o.t very much |
