The trick--move 2200 lbs by yourself off the trailer and into the garage.  So here is the deal, make a mobile base that can slip under the mill, put on some big honking wheels, get a hydraulic trailer to drop to the ground and roll it off.  Once I get into position I'll use the jack screws to jack it up, shim under it, remove the base, crow bar up under it, remove the shims and it's Miller time.  This is by far the heaviest thing I have ever done by myself.

Reply:Pretty ingenious dolly .  I like that idea."The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living and the get rich quick theory of life." -Theodore Roosevelt
Reply:looks amazing!what is that machine?
Reply:Great dolly. I pick my mills up with a gantry and put them on a normal dolly that's 8" off the ground. I really like your design.
Reply:I have a coworker that will have to do the EXACT same thing. I'd love to see a detail list of the measurements of the dolly.ChrisLincoln Pro Mig 180TMiller Spectrum 375

Reply:We have a Crane Maintenance Company that has several trailers like that to haul there Scissor lifts. The Lifts are to low to the ground to drive up an incline so they lower the trailer down then drive up on it and raise the trailer up.
Reply:Yea I used a trailer just like that one to move mine, but since it was a CNC version, I couldn't put a dolly under it, the computer cabinets were in the way. I had an anchor point at the other end of the garage. so I backed the trailer up the driveway and unhitched it, then turned my truck around and used the winch to pull it off. Once in the garage I used a crowbar to walk it into place.Synchowave 180SD  Bernard 3500SS water coolerMillermatic 200Parker Plasma Tec 40dvOperating Engineers Local 12
Reply:Gents--thanks for the compliments. The trailer was one that I rented, it was the best $60/day I ever spend.  The folks at the rental store call it a hydraulic trailer, this happened to be a Bil-Jax Trailer:http://www.biljax.com/Products/Described/Product3.aspxIt terms of the dimensions, the main piece is a 4 x 6 x 5/16 angle that I dug out of the dirt at the scrap yard for $0.20/LB.  The top tubes and the tubes that hold the 3/4" plate for the wheels are 2 x 2 x 1/4 (receiver tubing).  The square tubing to join the two pieces is 1.5 x 1.5 11 gage.  About the only tricky thing is making sure you have enough overhang for the wheels to clear when rotated.  The wheels are rated at 900 lbs and are steel casters.  On a concrete floor they work great. They can be found at eBay for about $20/each (5" dia swivel). The jacking screws are 3/4-10 NC and I used all thread connectors to weld to the base. Holler with any other questions.
