Hello, I'm having trouble finding a school in Washington State for welding. I have the GI Bill and want to use it before my time to use it, runs out.I tried a few websites and searched for zip code, but doesn't seem like there's anything good in the state.Any help or advice, greatly appreciated,. especially if anyone in here is in Washington State and knows the options and positives/negatives of the schools there. Thanks much-Mike
Reply:Hello mikeaaron, what part of the state are you located in? There are probably 20 or more different Community/Vocational/Technical colleges in Washington State that have welding programs. Most of them are concentrated in the Seattle/Tacoma/Bellvue/Everett/Bellingham area, yet there are also a number of them in all the other areas of the state as well. I teach at Lower Columbia College in Longview, WA., about 45 miles north of Portland, Ore. I believe we have a very good school and there are many others. There are also a large number of apprenticeship programs that have their own training centers to address their needs, you should have no problem locating these. If you are still having difficulties don't hesitate to email me for more information. [email protected] Best regards, Allanaevald
Reply:if you're GI I'm guessing you near JBLM. or bremerton. You've got bates and clover park in Tacoma that are good tech schools. My brother went to Olympic Collage in Shelton for welding. There is SPSCC in Olympia that does welding. There is also the Dive institute of Seattle that would get you some Underwater welding, if that's the way you want to go.There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger
Reply:Hello again Mike, thought of another avenue for your consideration. There are a couple of programs that have to do with "helmets to hardhats", these are union related programs that give preference to veterans. Possibly another choice for you. Thorshammer gave you some specific names of programs that are very decent. They are't too far north of my location. Washington State has a rather unique organization that you won't find in any other state, we have an instructors association that meets up generally twice a year and most of the instructors from around the state are members. We share needs, ideas, job outlooks, and many other topics that deal with our industry and the training of welders and associated needs. Again, good luck and best regards, Allanaevald
Reply:The Washington Association of Building Officials has a page with links to WABO Qualified Welder Testing Agencies classified by region. All the schools listed have welding programs. http://www.wabo.org/welder-testing-agenciesYou should also look into an apprenticeship program. They have a searchable database of openings.http://www.lni.wa.gov/TradesLicensin...ip/default.asp
Reply:If you are in the Mt. Vernon area, may want to check out Skagit Valley College.
