We have a 24' container in the Car Park of one of our shops.I would like to have access via the long length, considering putting in a sliding door set up with the doors made of the sections I cut out to make the door way .Has anyone done this before or seen it done?Any suggestions??Thanks in advance.BrettA good guess is better than a bad measurement
Reply:I've seen a bunch with the roll up doors. This page has some photos and near the bottom some photos prior to installing the doors. http://www.containerusa.com/photo.htmlI imagine you could put some bard door track and make a slider. I have a barn style sliding door on the shop and it's not weather proof like a roll up would be.
Reply:I saw some containers here locally that were modified for use as rental storage. They had installed an overhead door in the side. Not a roll-type, but the paneled-type, same as most garages/shops/etc. You may be able to get used panels and/or track from door-install companies. It's hard to stay rain-tight with a sliding door, but you could cut out a section and then weld a frame into the hole in the container and around the exterior of the piece you cut out. This should make the cut-out a bit bigger than the opening. Mount the door to some barn-door track as mentioned. Not 100% rain-tight, but not sure if that's a concern for you...Andrew
Reply:These guys do a bit with them over here: http://www.royalwolf.co.nz and I see there's a .com.au site for them too. They've just extended prison capacity here using containers."One of the things we have to be thankful for is that we don't get as much government as we pay for." Reply:We're just getting into container modifications.  We've installed man doors and sliding windows.  What we do is cut a hole with a sawzall or plasma cutter and then frame around whatever you're going to install with box tubing.  We typically use 2 x 3 or 2 x 4.  You weld up a box frame just large enough to slide in whatever you want to mount into the container be it a window or a door, then weld the frame in place.  You then mount the window or door to the frame.  For doors, you can weld the hinge to the frame instead of screwing it in.  For windows, screw them from the sides.  I've not done a sliding door but I'm sure it can be done.  Check out a video I shot of a man door installation we did here [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYVO1trCHcU"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYVO1trCHcU[/ame].Last edited by StorageContainers; 08-16-2010 at 10:22 PM.Outback Storage Containers
Reply:Looks like they might make a decent paint booth for smaller things.  Probably not wide enough for most cars.
