I bought a Lincoln 255 mig welder. The mig gun works okay but it's a little on the big clunky side. An suggestions on a good replacement? I've seen Tweco and others that seem lighter and smaller. Does it make any sense to upgrade this or should I just stick with the stock Magnum 250L gun? Are Tweco's the best? If you know the part number of a suggested replacement gun please include that, I noticed Tweco has many different guns with the same specs but differnt part numbers.
Reply:I put a tweco on my Miller 175, and I am happy with the gun, it's the drive that sometimes bugs me. Might be time to get a new roller wheel. I got a 12ft gun, and it feeds well enough considering that it is a long push for the drive. I hated the short 9ft stock lead. Too short!!And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.
Reply:Tweeco and Lincoln are similar. I would go with the stock on that machine. Its light, big enough and handy. I have a wirematic 250 and it still has the original gun. The machine is a 93.David Real world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Go with a Bernard gun (1st choice) or a Tregaskiss. I love my Bernard guns. They make my Magnum look wimpy . When I burn up my magnum 250 I replace it with a bernard. I have never been a fan of the tweeco, too big and bulky. |
