I started this 2 months ago but it seems to rain everytime I'm off from work so I can't get to it. It used to be a pop up camper then the canvas tore and cost more to replace so I turned it into a utility trailer, now it's being converted into a cargo trailer. Plenty of sun today so I got alot done. Next I'm sandblasting and painting the entire frame before I skin it. Oh my back yard usually don't look like this so just ignore it. Reply:Looking good. I know how you feel about the weather. It seems every time I have a large project to do its crappy out and I can't work in the driveway.
Reply:Finished all the welding today and sanding now it's time for paint. This is a pic of my vert down Attached Images It's not what you can buy, it's what you can build that matters
Reply:Finally done with all the sand blasting and painting. The main frame of the trailer is from 1974 and had alot of surface rust. I used POR15 that a friend had left over, this will be the real test for the product. Thought I had enough to do the entire trailer in one color but didn't so I had to open a new can of POR 15 that had purchased to finish it. I'm using 3/8 plywood on the outside and will be covering it this Sunday with aluminum sheeting and finishing the trim work also. I still need to cut the outside wheelwell and install two more boards. My next step is the floor. I think the v-nose will look really good all trimmed out. Reply:box seems huge for the size of those tires. what is the load rating on them?
Reply:The tires are rated at 1535 lbs. each and the axle is rated for 2500 lbs. It's not what you can buy, it's what you can build that matters
Reply:i think i would put a new axle under it
Reply:Yea I was thinking of putting another axle under it and coming out from under with the wheels. I've got a mobile home axle I can shorten. The box looks taller in the picture than it really is, it is six ft tall. As soon as I am done I will have it weighed at the gravel pit down the road from me so I know exactly what it weighs. It's not what you can buy, it's what you can build that matters
Reply:What does it weigh? And what is it registered for?Me!
Reply:Took the trailer to a quarry a couple miles down the road from me today and had the trailer weighed. 940LBS minus the floor and rear doors. Next part of the project will be swapping the axle for a larger one and to move the tires to the outside of the trailer. Reply:what did you use on the out side and the roof
Reply:I think a 15" tire back there will make it level.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:I used aluminum sheeting you can pick up at homedepot or lowes for the outside it comes in rolls of 24''x50' it seems about the same thickness they use on other trailers, well the ones sitting outside of lowes one had a rip in it. It took 3 rolls to cover it and that's over lapping it piece by 4inches, I also over lapped the top about 1 1/2inches over the sides before I put the trim pieces on it.All the seems have been sealed with a 3m product for installing windsheilds before I screwed it to the trailer. The past three rain storms I have not found any leaks. It's not what you can buy, it's what you can build that matters
Reply:Just my two pennies, if you put the mobile home axle under it w/ the accompanying springs, you'll get your welds and sheet metal work vibration tested. Those springs are almost as solid as welding the axle to the frame. Reply:What do you think of the por-15? I'm just wondering, especially it's scratch resistance! I've made some sliding horse panels, they slide into one another and have some 'blunt' edges on the metal. I need some rust proofing stuff and was about to buy some of the por-15 but wondered your thoughts on it...

Reply:any more progress on this trailer.
Reply:OK school is out, now I have time for other stuff. During school projects are on hold so I can spend time with the kids. Here is my progress on the trailer. New 3500#axle under it and tires on the outside of the trailer, I still need to add more trim, build the doors and paint it. I'm thinking of painting it a gray.
