I might be making a new 500 gallon sewage tank for work depending on one being available or not. It's used to separate the sludge from the effluent. My question, what type of s/s is the best to use in an application such as this? From what I've read it looks like 316 is the best choice. The current tank is 25 years old and is constantly needing repais due to corrosion in the weld area. It's a poor design in that the joint is a very sharp angle, about 30 deg and there is a lot of undercut and what appears to be overheating of the weld area which is corroding quite fast.....MIke
Reply:What is in the sewage that it requires SS? You can get off-the-shelf 500+ gallon below and above ground plastic tanks that will hold sewage that start around $750. Some come with installed separating baffles, and if you need custom shapes, fittings, baffles and manways, they will build it. A web search on plastic sewage tanks may save a lot of money.TeddCoHTP Microcut 400 & Invertig 160DC Smith Dual Guard MD-510 OA Rig Lincoln SP135+ Hobart Stickmate LX 235/160

Reply:Sounds like a $hitty job. Sorry I had to.304 would work fine with the proper filler and welding procedures. I just priced some odd sized 316L sheet's and it was CHEEP!!!! 5x10's for $1.75Lb. makes 316 a much more attractive alternative.Vantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches. |
