Has anyone used goof off as a degreaser prior to welding? I have a piece of metal that had sitickers all over it and the best product I found to remove the glue residue was goof off. Now I am wondering if I need to use acetone or denatured alcohol to remove any thing left from the goof off or if I can start to mig?
Reply:It's been quite a while since I used either Goof off or Goo Gone on something, but I remember one or both leaving an oily like residue on the surface. I'd go a head and wipe it down with acetone myself before welding to be safe..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:I don't know what's in Goof off, but somewhere I read how a guy used brake cleaner before welding, and the toxic fumes it let off almost killed him. I got sooo sick from toxic fumes many years ago, that I wished I was dead....Be careful.
Reply:thanks, I'll wipe it down with acetone.
Reply:Goof Off is Naptha. You can use Zippo lighter fluid in place of Goof Off, but do clean it off with acetone.MillerMatic 135Handler 210 w/ DP3035 SpoolgunLincoln AC-225Primeweld TIG225xEverlast Power Arc 200Weldcraft TIG rigSmith American Classic O/AEvolution Rage 2 SawTD Cutmaster 52Miller Thunderbolt with HF Box
