I want to add a taller rail around my pontoon boat. What is the best way to bend square aluminum tubing?
Reply:I won't be the best guy to explain you but i think it will help if you add some info about what kind of tube, what radius (large or small and tight radius) and what size you want to use!Sometimes if its a large radius with a small thick tubing this can be done the same way as a solid bar, on a table with a jig, a layout and some heating point!its different to try bending a 3/4 OD tubing than 2'' ODLast edited by LayoutMan; 06-25-2012 at 05:27 PM.Calculator > Bevel Square
Reply:There is a good thread about square tube bending here. It has illustrations, just keep checking. I got a lot of info from here and made my own dies that use a hydro-bender. I will be glad to post if you don't find the original thread.
Reply:You can use a hausfeld (idk if that's spelled right?) But that works pretty good, aluminum is pretty soft, so it should work, as long as you have the right dies. http://www.philswelding.com

Reply:If this is just a one-off project, there are ways to bend tubing by hand. You want to get a soft aluminum, not a brittle one. It's less predictable than mild steel, but also requires less force.Take a look at this link.http://www.metalgeek.com/archives/2005/05/01/000047.phpJack OlsenMy garage website |
