Reply:Nitrogen for your shop, it is a free gift with the payment of your phone bill, kind of like how they leave phone books in the driveway.
Reply:It keeps fiber optics dry.
Reply:Yes its to keep copper wire dry. The older cables some of which were lead covered had to have air pressure to keep the water from getting in them. In our neighbor hood they had an air compressor with filter system in it to keep pressure on the old lead lines. These compressor setup were about every 10 to 15 poles to keep the air up. The animals would chew on the lead for the salt and leave it leaking.
Reply:Pretty sure that looks like an accident waiting to happen!!!!Go hot, or go home!
Reply:Yeah, it's not brilliant, but it's the only quick alternative to letting a buried cable become totally unusable in a very short time.No doubt they are eventually planning to dig up the road and replace whatever needs replacing, but where time, money, and resources are very limited, the old nitrogen gas bottle will put the buried cable on life support for a while.Cheers, Tony._________________________________Transmig 310 + Argoshield LightOxy acetyleneOxy propanePrehistoric stick welder_________________________________
