Had another roller to build up the journals on today but ran into problems...The individuals that "Repaired" this in the past should not be allowed to do this...While welding away this A.M. and suddenly I get this "POP" and the tungsten is trashed...Badly put on sleeves will do that to ya...The sleeve was not shrunk on it was just slid on and welded..Badly at that. While I was welding it to build it up it blew up on my torch..The sleeve gets hot..Then expands thus leaving a space between the shaft and the sleeve..Then basic heat takes over and the end result is not pretty.Next step is to stop all welding and deal with it in the lathe..Guaranteed to win now..Pics below..Pic 1 is the roller that has carbide rings in it that have to be ground after the journal repair..Pic 2 is the result after 3 mins of weld build up..Pics 3 and 4 is the resulting mess...Pic 5 is the end of the line for sleeves..The machine was set around 220 amps..Foot pedal..3/32 70S-3 filler..3/32 red while it lasted...Next post.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:As we continue..Check out this weld??Whatever...Here is the end result waiting for the real sleeve that I make on Monday..Until then.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:That just about defines a crappy repair zap... Maybe drilled a bar of 1144 or 12L14 and slid it on. It sure didn't take long for your weld to look funky though .Is that a slitter roll?Matt
Reply:Like you say you get all the fun jobs. What I have seen of your repairs over the years, it is in good hands now.
Reply:Yesterday when I was finishing up a weld and sitting next to the welder, the pressure line for the cooler popped off. It was pointed directly at me and at shoulder level when seated, the following high pressure coolant sprayed directly out at me shoulder high. After being thoroughly drenched in coolant after what seemed an hour I was able to shut the welder off ( 3 maybe 5 seconds). That stuff has kind of a sweet taste, like any antifreeze I guess. I hate it when that happens. s.r.
