Here are a couple pics of my firebox. I used 304 grade 3/8ths thick with 3/8ths carbon plate for the shell. The grate is 316 grade 5/8ths round stock welded to 2"x1/4" 316 angle iron. I am hoping not to have to replace this for a while. Attached Images
Reply:Dear god, that's ridiculous.  However, it's exactly how I'd build it if I had money/material!  Whats that getting used on, i assume some kind of smoker, bbq, pig roaster?Millermatic 135Syncrowave 250
Reply:It's for my wing cooker Actually it's for a trailer mount hybrid smoker. I still have a way to go but am hoping to be able to test burn in about two weeks. Attached Images
Reply:Cut the doors today as well as the sched 10, 316, 2 and 4 inch pipe for the stanchions and stacks. Still too dang hot out to be workingfor fun. Attached Images
Reply:Very nice. What are you gonna use for hinges and for your grate. I used scedule 10.  316 ss 3" pipe onthe stack on my small pit. It turned out looking very sharp. Hope to see more pics in future

Reply:Anyway, today I fabbed the shut off/regulator for the smoke box. I didn't weld it out as I am out of 316 rod and had to use 309. I have plenty of tig consumables but this after all only a smoker and I am running low on argon. I almost forgot what a pain the 316 is to work, I smoked a new band-saw blade on only two 6" cuts. Slim, I'm gonna use carbon for the racks for now. I can always upgrade later and I have 3 sheets of carbon against the wall. I'll be making all the hardware out of 316 round stock and small bore pipe. Attached Images
Reply:I put a couple more hours in today after work, but after working all day it just started to suck standing in the heat at home........especially after the beer started to flow.  Aside from cutting the random length, and a little more tiger disc action; the butterfly valve is done. I am still a little rusty welding pipe with the 316 rod but it's sealed and ground. I did a butt fit with a dime gap, turned the machine way down, and it still dropped some sugar through the seam. I made quick work of that with a pencil grinder so the gate seals and operates perfect. That spot I patched on the main cook chamber is really being unruly so I will take a rose bud and a porta power to it. With any luck I'll be able to get the hinges on and tacked this weekend. Reply:What is the main pit made of ? An old lpg tank or air tank? I wish I had time to start my trailer mounted pit. Got 8' of 20" sch. 20 just waiting to be carved up.  Yours is gonna be pretty nice
Reply:The main smoke chamber is 24" sched 20 Carbon. Message me when you do start it and I'll give you your recommended opening sizes and stack heights off a spread sheet I use.
Reply:Where did you get the 24" pipe from?  I want to build one too but don't where to find.
Reply:Hey y'all, made some more progress this weekend. I had to shut down due to some metal in my eye. I was wearing glasses and a face shield too! I reckon I will break out the goggles with a face shield from now on. Just goes to show ya, it's all fun and games until somebody gets an eye put out.  Anyway, just a shot of the mock up. I always mock up bikes when I build them so I figured this should be no different. One thing for sure it would be nice to have a good solid piece of pipe to work with. A little patina is one thing but when you can clean it better with a slag hammer than a grinder you are teetering on the edge. I only have the rack guides tacked with some 5-p. I prefer to tack and root with 5-p+++ but it ain't happening with this old junk iron. I still have to square up the ends of the main chamber as I had a buddy at work cut off the rough edges with the plasma cutter. Unfortunately, he used an air/gas rig and didn't do a very good job....looks like an old gator chewed it off. That's what I get for trying to save my bottles at home  More later..... Attached Images
