Hi,I found this apparatus when cleaning out my folks cabin. It was in a box that said "welding apparatus" (in norwegian). I would assume it was a hot plate but the box fit the apparatus so well. What kind of welding does it do? The knob selects 0-220‛C. Theres a power socket in the back. Its made in denmark.Picture hereThanks!
Reply:It may be a hot plate to keep parts requiring pre-heating for welding at the proper temp and/or for controlled cool down. ???I see there's an address and phone number for the manufacturer. Maybe attempt to contact them? Are you located in Denmark or surrounding region?Last edited by duaneb55; 07-08-2012 at 12:37 PM.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:That might be correct. I opened it up. It is indeed a hotplate. The knob is a standard thermostat. The aluminium block has mains running through it (through nichrome wire, I suppose).

Reply:Keeping tin boxes of SMAW stick warm and dry? Or a metal pot of brazing flux preheated or liquified? Just shoot in the dark here. Duane is WAY more educated than I......... keep the welders lunch soup hot? It gets cold in Norway!........ foot warmer while sitting at the work bench? Or sit on it?......... welding glove warmer/dryer?OK, I'll leave............................................. .........................................200amp Air Liquide MIG, Hypertherm Plasma, Harris torches, Optrel helmet, Makita angle grinders, Pre-China Delta chop saw and belt sander, Miller leathers, shop made jigs etc, North- welders backpack.
Reply:At those temperatures... Perhaps welding plastic? Melting the edges on the "hotplate" and push together?
Reply:@duane: I‛m sorry for laughing but it‛s a 7 digit number. Means it was produced in the 60‛s Google doesn‛t reveal any info either so I‛m guessing the company no longer exists. And I‛m located in Norway, btw. Still, thanks for the suggestion. I‛m rooting for your first suggestion.@bert: Yeah, guess I‛ll use it to keep my soup warm during the winter. My living room is actually 30‛C right now. Not very cold at all. New Years was -20‛C.
Reply:@g-son: Hm, did people melt gutters etc to weld them together back in the day?

Reply:Well at only 450 watts I would use it to keep my welding rods dry.

Reply:Another horizontal surface: just what I needed! Too bad it has to be on top of another horizontal surface ...
