I just picked up a used Toyota t-100 with the start of a flat bed. The bed is .120x 2x1 steel perimeter and 1x1 supports etc.. The bed is 75" wide and 7' long with a space under the wood deck for a pull out ramp.  Now this is where my questions come in, I would like to build the ramp out of alum 1x1x .125 and will be about 80" long and 48" wide with stringers every  12" and two more 80" long set 12" in form the sides, if I ran my numbers right it should be about 36lbs. Will this be enough to support a 520lb sled and 150lb rider up onto the bed? I thought about making it out of steel but it would be to heavy. I also need to come up with a nice way to have fold down sides so I can haul 2 sleds and when not loaded I can have a small truck bed. Keep in mind this trucks soul purpose is to go riding sleds and dirt bikes nothing else and it will be fitted with air bags before its loaded with anything. Any ideas are welcome and will be much appreicated.
Reply:AKToadI used to have a similar setup of which you mention.  you say that the ramp will be 80" long which is roughly 6ft 6in which would mean that at no time will the total weight of the sled be on the ramp.  When I built mine it was out of .125 x 1" square stock with some .125 x 4" angle to keep the skis from sliding off the ramp.  make sure you put some kind of guide for your carbides to run in or it won't make it up the ramp.  I no longer have this setup so no pic. but if you need some skeetchup work done I can draw something up for you. and ps think snow
