Trying to get some practice in before doing my roll cage.  Also going to be getting a plasma cutter soon,  im about done with angle grinders!  This is 1.5 .120 wall tube with some 1/4" backing plate.
Reply:looks very nice what bender do you have?
Reply:Looks good. What's it going on? You should put some pop-in led lights in the plate.I'd also like to know what bender
Reply:It was going to go on my 90 jeep cherokee, lifted n locked on 35s.  Its my street/trail rig.  But I just sold this and decided to go with a non tube bumper with a swing out tire carrier.  Its going to be my next project soon as I bite the bullet and order a plasma cutter!  Going to be mostly 3/16" plate.  The bender I used was a JD2 model 3, welder was my lincoln 180 for some and some I used a welder at a friends shop I think was a Lincoln 255.  Felt good to sell something that I built and the guy who bought it was happy with it!

Reply:Are you going to cut rear panel on Cherokee and insert bolt strip that adds more attachment points to the unibody of the XJ? If you haven't thought about this, you might want to consider it as your bumper is tonka built, but the panel on the Cherokee (XJ) that you will be attaching to isn't all that strong.I stole this pic from www dot NAXJA dot org  There are other designs, but the concept is the same.Last edited by little Jeep; 10-13-2010 at 06:00 PM.Qualified & experienced at welding scrap metal
Reply:On that bumper I did not, on the new bumper I am making I cut a opening in the frame and put 1/4" 2x4 steel tubing with a nut strip inside that to tie everything togather.  So I get all the mounting holes from the hitch/gas tank skid and welded 1/4" plates to also use the stock mounting holes.  I wanted it real sturdy to add recovery points.  Also got the idea from a thread on naxja!Miller 212JD2 model 3 BenderDeWalt 14" Chop sawDelta Drill Press
