Good websites for information

Iv been welding for about 4 years now in my schools vo-tech program. I would say that I understand the basics of welding, set up, machine maintenance, puddle control, etc. But my teacher doesnt do much book work so my idea for the "science" behind it is low. Can anyone recommend a good website or anything along those lines to learn some of this stuff. (Why use this type of gas, sharpening tungsten correctly, stuff like this) In my shop we were mostly taught by the older kids on basics and our teacher got more involved with us once he saw what we could do. But in this case the kids in my class have me confused on things because one second its you do this this way then it gets changed. So I am having some problems with this.
