Do you think it's possible to use the little one as a feeding mechanism and the power from the big one to make a decent mig welder? Would a mig machine made from these two machines be a useful machine? Is it worth the trouble? Attached Images
Reply:Not that it couldn't be done, but in my opinion you'd have a bit of a mismatch with the wire feeder and gun from a small 110v unit coupled with an industrial strength power supply. Welding at the higher amperages the XMT is capable of would fry the lightweight feeder and gun (maybe you too).ScottMiller XMT 350 CC/CV w/gas solenoid opt.Miller S-22A wirefeederBernard 400A "Q" gunMiller Spoolmatic 30A / WC-24C-K 200A torch/gas lensWeldcraft WC-18 watercooled torchHypertherm Powermax 30Victor O/A
Reply:I agree with Dmaxer. Look for a used LN25 or Hobart Hefty or Suitcase feeder to use with your XMT. I see these feeders used for as little as $400 to $600 on Craig's List. I see them for more money too, but if you spend some time searching, you can find one at a good price. I bought a Suticase 8VS for $500 not long ago, in good condition with a heavy duty fluxcore gun on it. Unfortunately, it was stolen soon after, but that's another story.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op |
