Reply:Well, you will need to get some plugs for the ends of the tube. How big a tube is it? I do it many ways; I will use small rubber plugs from a hardware store or cork plugs for tube of 1" to 3". For smaller tube, I just use some blue tape. If we weld the big stuff at work, we have plates with a rubber washer we use. In the center of the plug, you put through a feed line for the argon. You either need a seperate bottle, or a splitter on the line. You will need a valve you can turn on/ off, and you have to watch it, or you'll waste all your gas, and FAST!At work, we have a machine set up specifically for that. It feeds a secondary line from the torch lead at the unit. They set the preflow really long, like 5 seconds to be sure the pipe has purge. That's a setup for production pipe, the average guy doing headers would benefit, but it takes a bunch of rigging. If you have doubts as to your ability to get gas coverage, you can also use Solarflux. And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.
Reply:we use tape and rice paper to build a damn down the pipe the paper dissolves in liquid reallly quick..use whatever just make sure you get a good seal or your gonna have sugar and remeber to contrlo your purge you dont want too much blowing out of your weld areapipefitter/welder 7 yrsgeneral foreman 2 yrs working in the fabrication, chemical and petrochemical industry 7 yrsNCCER CERTIFIED-PIPEFITTER, IRONWORKER, WELDER STOP SNITCHING |
