I made this bench this morning as a multi purpose bench to change the tyres on my KTM530EXC.  Most bikes now days come with black rims which are very prone to scratching when removing or fitting new tyres. The beads can be a bugger to break as well. This bench fits the bill perfectly. The hole in the centre of the table is for the brake disk or hub to fit in. The carpet stops the rim from getting scratched. The mesh rack underneath is handy for storing new or old tyres. There is a handy spot on the side for storing the rubber mallet. When not in use as a tyre change table I just remove the bead breaker with one wing nut and place a piece of flat timber on top, and I have a nice drawing/layout table.I am going to put some flat plates on the bottom of the legs and when I move to my new house and workshop I am going to blot her to the floor in a permanent position. I made the whole thing to be a comfortable height for me to work on, as every time I used to change the tyres on the floor of my shed I ended up with a huge back ache, but not with this little sucker !!Last edited by eyspy; 07-17-2009 at 12:10 AM.

Reply:Supper's ready, so I gotta gitBut........  I wondered if you're happy with the "shoe".  The part that actually fits the rim when you break the bead.  The semi circular thingI built a hydraulic bead breaker a ways back, and the hardest part of the project was grinding and shaping the actual spoon end of the breaker.  I never actually got it right.  It wouldn't automatically suck into the rim, I had to hit it with a heavy hammer as the downward force was being applied.  Otherwise the force was being applied more to the sidewall than the bead.I tried changing the angle of attack, but if the angle was too far off plumb I lost too much force.I've noticed the part on a commercially made machine is pretty well sculptured.  I couldn't replicate that on my build.Later man, gotta eat"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:It has yet to be used farmersam, but next week I have to use it so I will report back then. But I envisage no problems as I have had a dummy run on an old tyre and rim and it looks like it will work a treat.
Reply:Now you need an axle and mounts so you can balance the newly mounted tires; or tyres as you might say....Benson's Mobile Welding - Dayton, OH metro area - AWS Certified Welding Inspector
