So I spend some time on line at a liquidation auction and decide to step up from my little Lincoln 100 to what looks like a pretty powerful but inexpensive chinese welder from RilandUSA. Wanted to really try my hand at some projects. I figured for a few hundred bucks, when these were retailing for like 1200, what could go wrong. Turns out a lot.I pick up the unit and nothing I have plugs into anything else. Power source/inverter and remote wire feeder don't seem to have the same plugs and there are no instructions or diagrams in the unopened box.Can't get an answer from RilandUSA (becasue I think they were what was being liquidated) even though their website is still up. I think i need a spool gun from them to make this thing work, but can't find one I know will plug in and workAnybody have one of these or have any ideas?
Reply:Hey Tom,I have the Riland MIG250L Spoolgun unit & it is on my mobile unit. I have used it for over (3) years & my log book shows I have run (142) 2# spools of 70S-6, 5356, NR211MP, & E71T-GS. It has been flawless in operation, will do spray welding, parts will interchange with my Miller 3035, & I even bought a spare spoolgun assembly for $185 complete from Riland USA as a "just-in-case". So far, the spare I bought is still in the shipping box. You need to post some pics of your setup since my unit came complete as a spoolgun unit, not with a remote w/f setup. Reply:These were similar to our old 250D line. What do you need to know? PM me or ask it here. Of course, maybe some Riland owners can assist.Do you have pics of your unit with the plugs? Most of these are standard DINSE 50 couplers. The wire feeders have a 5 or seven pin panasonic connector for energizing the torch and activating the wire feed/gas flow.. Maybe the wire feeder you have doesn't go with the unit? Reply:OK SOMEWHAT SUPPRISED!!!!!. I hooked up my Riland Mig250LD. Got my new spool gun all installed and took it for a test drive. I installed a spool of .035 wire dinked around with the settings a little and WOW!!!!! Not bad at all. I ran it at 165 amps for about 10 min. Didnt even get the thing warm. Weld was very consistant. cranked it a little higher on some 3/4" plate. Went for another 10 min. Blew half a spool of wire just screwing around. If this continues to weld like this i will be really happy. Still havn't found any manuals. But i have figures alot of stuff out by my self. I think i will give it a couple more hours of weld time before i give my final verdict. But for know i think ill keep it. Here's a couple of pics.
