A friend of mine designed a blind frame for his boat, using conduit that he purchased from Lowes. Another guy did the bending, and I did the welding. This turned out real nice. it was the first time I welded cheap conduit. I set my wire welder (Lincoln 100) as low as it could run, and the welds turned out marvelous. The most clever part about this blind is what he's going to side it with.........'political signs!' The election year brought plenty! My friend recycled them from a dumpster full of them. He then painted them green and will screw them on to the conduit frame.... then top it with camo netting. After doing this project, I have entered a whole new world of conduit projects in my head. conduit is CHEAP and light weight. I'm thinking of deer blinds, Christmas light frames, drying racks, kid's play tents......etc...I hope to put more pictures of this when the sides and camo are on. Reply:That looks great.Lots of possibilities with emt. here's a framework I built to support a screen to keep the bugs away while lounging in the spa:There is a tall piece of conduit rising up and bent over the spa to hang the screen enclosure on, the sides keep it from collapsing. My wife got the screen enclosure from some world import store or something a few years ago and we have never been able to use it till now, it would just cave in to the water, plus it was a pain to find a branch to hang it on. The framework can stay up all the time and the cover can still be opened/removed with it in place.I actually made it in two halves that are fastened together with ordinary set screw couplings. I bent the curves with an emt bender.I had to be real careful with the welds, it burns through so easy. I capped the open ends and ground them smooth.Last edited by bigb; 11-07-2010 at 12:48 AM.Miller Challenger 172Miller Thunderbolt AC/DC 225/150Miller Maxstar 150 STLVictor 100CVictor JourneymanOxweld OAHarris O/ASmith O/A little torchNo, that's not my car. |
