La Discada

You may have seen the 3 legged stand I made in Augusthttp://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=45266I've added 3 cobbed up horseshoe  supports for the Discada and they also contain and support the propane cooker if I wanted to substitute it for the charcoal.  Charcoal can go in the old skillet but today no wind, wouldn't get cookin;,  so we used the old grill.Here is the rest of that project.  I took a 22" disc, filled the hole, added horeshoes for handles, sandblasted the rear side and polished the cooking side. Note: the best place to polish it out was right on the stand, it is strudy and works great. The cooking side of the disc will be seasoned now with Lard till it is smooth and black.  My outdoor sink is close for cleaning as needed; but the best way to clean it is probably going to be  to wipe it out hot and add a layer of lard and heat it up, just like  Cast iron cookware.   We have lots of  cluckers roaming around, we had a good crop, 16 young roosters  which will be lunch from time to time.  I'l try to post some  Discada meals,  you might like to see how we do Mexican food.enjoy, Bretps; new song for the ranchita crew>         ~We loved U li'l red rooster but we got hungry today~. Reply:Yes a friend farmer gave me 4.  I think you can buy them brand new from various Ag dealers and even on the net.  Might be even better because the grind out to get the pits out took a coupla hours... sheesh. I love the Mexican coast and that was like a  mirage of happiness, looked like Ernest Hemmingway shoulda' been there  IF UR near San Diego I'll bring ya' one I,  I go every 3 weeks to LaJolla to be "mistreated"  at ScrippsI got 3 more discs just laying here.  pm me. Reply:I'm joking on mistreatment...I mean  the nurses and Drs. at Scripps Anderson Hospital next to Torrey Pines golf course who are great.    I've had two operations and chemo, etc since I was 46,  I'm 62 almost and stil kicking, and a new round starting real soon.  I love Scripps and the nursing care there... I just go to the receptionist to check into Oncology Treatment and ask politely.. "Could you book me into the mistreatment room and make my nurses aware I'm here."   They are ok with it and snicker,   They know I think very highly of them. I get more butterflys/scared/nervous whatever  in Oncology than I  did flying as crew in Nam, course I was young, stupid and invinsible then... now I know it can kill ya'... but those nurses got the smarts and the will, they get U thru.  I owe them a lot.   Mistreatment nah, best I've ever had it.  Now it's the chickens who ought to be afraid of mistreatment,  My bud who stays at the ranchita in winter got here today... we got a Discada to seal with lard,  Chickens to clean, bass to catch... going to be a bizeee winter.   MoonRise U R so right, I could get cited... I just plain forgot??  It is kinda' a tradition to use mesquite here for most all outdoor cooking  enjoy, and sincere thanks for the friendship and concern; I'm ok, been this way for a long long while and I plan to weld badly and share it with you  a LOT more. Reply:We went over there, that is where they have the most fantastic ocean aquarium and a scientific interaction kinda thing for the public... VERY kool.  My wife is a teacher and likes science and  that kinda' thing a lot and she had a blast handling the little sea urchin thingies and all.  They have baby ocean stuff you can watch in a pool, just sit there and see them up close.  If U go to San Diego that is a good place to see.The other famous place is Torrey Pines Golf Resort which surrounds the Hospital more or less, a beautiful stretch of golf course along the cliffs and beach.  When Tiger plays at the Buick open you have to have reservations to use the Hospital parking to protect it.  The Docs all go up on the roof and watch Tiger as he goes thru the course.  In contrast the hospital itself is kinda' boringLincoln Power MIG 215Lincoln WeldPak 3200HDLincon ProCut 25Lincoln WeldanPower 225 AC/DCIf all else fails... buy more tools
Reply:That turned out nice papalion. Its also makig me hungry. I remember when we built a grill a few years back. By the time I was done We were cooking on it without paint. Man was it worth it.
