My MM 210 is acting like it has grounding or completing the curcuit issues. When I start a weld it doesn't want to weld clean (fry bacon sound?). It has a tendency to push wire a couple of times then "welds", as long as I continue on the same bead. Stop, move 1 inch, and same thing. I have checked grounds, wires in electrical boxes, put new tip on etc. This welder is about 2 years old and hasn't even burned a roll. Any suggestions? Thanks,RC
Reply:My 1st thought is that the ground at the work is bad. Did you grind a nice clean spot to attach the ground to? Paint or rust at the ground will sometimes cause what you describe.
Reply:Was welding on brand new 22 gauge and also new 1/8" angle.
Reply:Brand new but was it free of mill scale?Output capacitor C11 and/or C12??  Just a guess.  They provide output voltage stabilization and if one or both are defective it could be experiencing a temporary significant drop in arc voltage at the start of the weld resulting in the symptom you've described.Out of curiousity, is the wire feed speed faster at start up and then slow to weld as it should?MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:Have you tried reducing the wire speed a little?Have you checked to make certain that the output stud connections in the wire drive compartment are tight? Is the black plastic knob on the wire drive assembly tight? This would be the knob that compresses the thru bore down onto the power pin on the machine end of the gun assembly.Last edited by Dan; 07-25-2009 at 01:07 AM.ESAB Migmaster 250 Hobart Ironman 230Multimatic 215TWECO Fabricator 181i & 211iHH125EZ - nice little fluxcore only unitMaxstar 150 STH - very nice

Reply:Thanks for all the suggestions, I have tried them all except keeping the gun on for an hour.I think I'm going to run the welder by my LWS were I bought it.

Reply:One quick suggestion my 212 was acting kinda strang like that and I found my pinch rollers were slipping. Had gotten some bad wire from HF and they had a build up of crud on them. The wire would just slow down took me a while to figure it out......BrandonLincoln Tombstone 225 A/C Steel StickerOld Victor O2/Acetylene setupMiller Syncrowave 250 Tig/PC-300 PulserMiller Millermatic 212 Mig HTP Invertatig 201 Giant Teck D50 Plasma cutterLots of HF grinders
Reply:Another possiblity may be your torch switch, conduit and connector at the welder, I had trouble with my Tweco torch causing porousity, their should be a screw or some sort of setscrew at the connection to the welder, should be able to check switch continuity with multi meter.Would like to know cause when you find it.
Reply:I've had this behavior from a bad liner.  The wire would feed ok, but then every so often it would spit out a little burst of wire, or take a little pause.Try welding a test piece with the gun stretched out as straight as possible.  Put a bucket or chair in front of the machine if needed to keep the gun from having a sharp bend where it comes out of the machine.  If it welds ok with the gun straight, I'd replace the liner.  You might also try a new tip and be sure it's the correct size.  Also you can check your feed roller tension and see if it's slipping (I think someone's already mentioned this)Dynasty200DX w/coolmate1MM210MM VintageESAB miniarc161ltsLincoln AC225Victor O/A, Smith AW1ACutmaster 81IR 2475N7.5FPRage3Jancy USA1019" SBAEAD-200LE
Reply:Andy,I haven't had time to run the machine by the LWS, but that is exactly what a phone call to them said was their guess was at the moment. Your written description explains the problem perfectly.
