How much shi.t do you get in for having arc strikes outside of the joint?I've heard alot about how there is a small window for f-up's. That they are quick to send you packing.l want to weld pipe but l'd be too nervous that l'd mess it up and probably do just that.Probably a dumb question but l've also have never seen a pipe welder wearing an auto-dark lid…..are they generally not allowed?

Reply:I've got pancakes with both Mirror lenses and auto darkening."Arc Strike"..... Here's my attitude...... DON"T ARC STRIKE....... Then you won't have to be wondering what they will let you get by with. The majority of the time I'll "pool cue" if there is any doubt about where I'm firing up.I've had inspectors call an "arc strike" for a BB that stuck outside the bevel and a helper knocked it off with a file. If you have anything outside the bevel, just leave it and knock it off when the inspectors is there.JMHOHoboLincoln SA200's... at least 15 - 20. They come and go. Growing partial to the "Short Hoods" in my old age. Last count on Short Hoods was 13 in possession.
