high pressure weld

I was given a 1 " high presuure steel hyd . line to repair , has small leaks at welded joint s at block where all three connect . looks like silver solder . can this be resolderd or brazed ??What would be best method?                                       Thanks Larry

Reply:I've fixed hundreds of similar pieces like that over the years.  Don't try to gas weld it,,,,,you will be doing it again if you do.  Clean it up really good and use stainless, 309 works well, so does 307, just depends on what I have at the time.  If you use 7018, it will crack after a few hours in service, the stainless is more maleable.  One more very important thing to consider is, why did it break?  Make SURE the clamps that hold the pipes are in place and tight, this is the most common cause of that kind of failure, youcan weld it up a dozen times and it will break a dozen times if its not secured properly.--Matt6 Miller Big Blue 600 Air Paks2 Miller 400D6 Lincoln LN-25's4 Miller Xtreme 12VS2 Miller Dimension 812 4 Climax BW-3000Z bore welders Hypertherm 65 and 85Bug-O Track BugPair of Welpers

Reply:From your picture it does not appear to be silver solder. If it were silver the pipe would be in a socket in th block and all you would see of the silver is a fine line in the joint. In the pic it looks like there is build up on the block and pipe. I would grind the weld out except for a couple of "tacks"   then weld with 309 as Expat recommended. If you are still worried about it moving tack the block to the table and clamp or tack the other ends to bracing off the table.

Reply:I've worked around and under that stuff for thirty years and repaired a lot of hyd. lines like that and have always brazed them up and never had one leak yet.What ExpatWelder said about the clamps.
