Hey everyone ! New welder here ( still in welding school ). Im trying to build my welding table and im looking for a good price on castors and they seem to be $30-$80 a piece . Is that the normal price or am I looking in the wrong places ? Thanks.
Reply:Harbor freight has a good selection for a reasonable price.
Reply:yeah i just got a set of four heavy duty ones from harbor freight for $8. I was lucky enough to catch them on sale too.
Reply:I got an amazing set of casters (not castors) from a scrap pile behind a restaurant. Asked the manager if I could have it, she said, "Sure but you gotta take the whole pile of stuff."  Which turned out to be a huge pile of stainless, some other assorted scrap, and an old 3 drawer stainless steel "Toastmaster" its got 3 drawers that I can heat up to 500F. Great for heating up the rods or tools when you work outside in the cold winter months.Anyways, Be patient and they'll find you. People throw away the coolest things.I can remember in the 7th grade my mom said "people will offer you drugs" by the 10th grade I was like, "where the hell are these people?"

Reply:SurplusCenter.com has just about everything you can think of, sometimes as odd lots and closeouts at very good prices.  They currently have about a dozen pages of casters of all types and sizes:https://www.surpluscenter.com/sort.a...EN=20&PageNo=1John
Reply:Cheap castors are just that, cheap.

Reply:I have used several different ones from northern tool and they all work well.
Reply:I'll do you one better.  Make a solid table without casters, and get a pallet jack.  Pallet jack costs about the same as a set of good casters, and gives excellent mobility of the table, while allowing it to be set solidly on the ground when hammering or beating on it, and then can be used for a myriad of other things.  It stores underneath the table, so the storage issue isn't a big deal.Who is John Galt?
Reply:Hey, Thanks for the info everyone. I'll post pics of my table when im done, but i doubt it will look as good as the tables on here, but i'll give it a shot. Thanks Again !!
Reply:I bought 4 6" casters at a flea market last year for $45 with greasable axles and swivels and rated for 750 lbs.  I have 2 6" swivel casters rated @ 1 ton each that I got for free from work.  I used Harbor Frieght for the casters for the bandsaw and for a roll around book/laptop stand.Millermatic 200Hobart Handler 120Victor O/A & Ramco BandsawLincoln 225 ACSnapOn AD HoodMiller XMT304/22AHypertherm Powermax 1650 G3Lincoln Idealarc DC600 w/Extreme 12 VSMiller Digital Elite "Joker"
Reply:Your choice of casters and how much you spend is going to be directly related to how much they are going to be used, how much of a load is on them, the terrain that they will be rolling over and if there is any chemical they might be rolling through. From personal experience I have found that cheap castors do roll, however they can be sticky, slow to respond and the wheels will stop turning when on a varying surface. If you are going to be rolling stuff in and out, day and night - then a more expensive castor will be your best purchase, if it is only going to move once in a while and not carry a serious load, a couple of cheap ones from Home Depot will suffice.
Reply:cant believe know one else suggested this  drive around town and find old shopping carts and get yourself some wheels ive got quite a few off dumped carts for free dont go jacking new carts  there's usually some dumpers around350P 30A spool gun cut master 51  syncro 250 other stuff " take a dog off the street and make him prosper and he will not bite you sad the same cannot be said for man" i didnt use punctuation just to piss you off
Reply:http://www.castercity.com/cm3a-plate.htmI've used these on several projects.  They aren't cheap but roll great on concrete.  Typical load is around 400 lbs. total.  The combination wheel/caster lock works great for work tables.Miller 211 w/ spool gunMiller Dynasty 200DXLongevity 60i IGBT plasmaO/A w/ crappy chinese torch/gaugesSouth Bend 10K latheGrizzly 4029 10x54 millGrizzly 7x12 hor bandsawangle grnders, bench grnder, bench belt sndr7.5 hp 80gal cmprsor
