I'm just getting stated in Mig welding. I'll be using a friend's Hobart 110. I'll be getting a machine of my own as soon as I'll get the hang of it. I have a lot of scrap sheet metal. Is the 110 Hobart a good choice for it? That's a good wire and, sheilding gas? Thanks for all the help guys!
Reply:.23 (or .24 -- same deal) wire and C25 gas (which is 75% Argon and 25% C02).
Reply:What Jack said, except it's .023, not .23.  The AWS number for the gas sheilded mig wire is ER70S-6.  .023" is the diameter of the wire.Turn your sheetmetal vertical with the joint going up and down and weld it down, if you want to reduce burn through on the thin sheet.Last edited by DesertRider33; 08-23-2009 at 05:47 PM.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op

Reply:Personally, I'd get some thicker metal to practice on, burn thru with the sheet metal will be your first frustration. Other than that, watch the puddle. If you don't want to stand behind our Troops, feel free to stand in front of them.
Reply:Thanks for the tip! What kind of practice and, joints to do?
Reply:IMHO, Just focus on getting a consistent beads for now, don't worry about joints till you get the feel for it. Post some pics of what comes from it.If you don't want to stand behind our Troops, feel free to stand in front of them.
