My daughter wants me to make a hall tree out of metal  has anybody made anything like this thinking about using light 2 in square tubing thanks in advance for any help
Reply:Hi, Not sure what a "hall tree" is but I've built a few out of steel.  Mostly out of 1/4 round wire. Here are some ideas if it helps. Attached Imagesars sine scientia nihil est
Reply:A hall tree is an item that slightly resembles a tree that you hang coats on. Id say the light 2" would work good for the main "trunk" of the tree. then just branch off of it. as long as the legs extend far enough to prevent tip overs from uneven loading / top heavy loads.
Reply:I really like the wall one, above the stairs!(Retired) Professional firefighter, amateur everything else I try to do...Oh yeah:  Go Big Red!   (You know: one of the 12 members of the Big 10 cuz we left the 10 members of the Big 12...)
Reply:Haven't got any pic's but have made some. Used .063 wall tube for the "trunk" and couple of the big branches, then solid round for the rest of the small branches. Gentle curve and kinks looks better and more natural than a bunch of tight bends. 3/8" solid round is good for the "hanger" branches. Round them off good on a belt sander or add plastic ball caps. Can weld on ball bearings too. 3/16th or 1/4" round can be good for little branches to hand umbrella's and key from, for more functionality. And getting the base width to branch width is very important. I often used a couple leather welding coats as they are as heavy as any normal coat that is going to hang, to get the balance right.Zora; LOVE the wall branch. Had to do one, with leaves, for a client in another Province. Had to rely on the contractor to give me good measurements and one photo of the position. Mounted to an inside curved wall of a spiral stair case. Curving up in a helical fashion. Built a mock up of the wall with 1/4 plywood and lumber. Neighborhood kids thought I was building a skateboard half pipe.  Piece was about 6' tall if I remember correctly. Lucked out that I didn't have to ship it as my agent was going to visit his son and driving by the clients city. Bonus!!!200amp Air Liquide MIG, Hypertherm Plasma, Harris torches, Optrel helmet, Makita angle grinders, Pre-China Delta chop saw and belt sander, Miller leathers, shop made jigs etc, North- welders backpack.
