It might be just me, but I really think that too many car part company's think they can weld together a manifold and end up putting out crap. I love cars (turbo ones especially) and when looking at manifolds for my evolution X I stumbled on this $900 gem. It looks like they tried to walk the cup on the sch 10 joints but with miserable success...when walking the cup it should help shielding (letting the puddle cool as you move accross) this purple oxidized mess was obviously welded with waay too much heat, and not near enough experience to weld with this practice on a production piece.
Reply:overheated a bit. looks like they were adding filler. wonder what the inside looks like????????you should re size the picture your text is a little cut off.

Reply:Maybe it's just me, but aren't the flanges on stainless headers supposed to be cut so that when the stainless tries to warp from the heat (of the engine) that it doesn't break studs/bolts?  I'm not a tuner guy, but I do remember hearing that on several car forums.
Reply:PIXresizer does a pretty good job of resizing pictures http://bluefive.pair.com/pixresizer.htmHope this helps.
Reply:I've seen a lot worse.  For the price, if it was purged it will likely last longer than the engine. I have built many file race turbo setups.  When regular customers ask hoe much something like that costs, i tell them, they almost fall over.  The moral being, people won't pay what it takes to do it right, and if they could pay, they don't know the difference between good work and so so work.  Unless you do it yourself, or pay 3 times what an online store charges, your just not going to get quality in the car world.Syncrowave 350Coolmate 3Millermatic 251Spoolmatic 30A

If he dialed in the welds his headers would be pretty awesome.

Reply:For $900 I would say no thank you..Full Race has a pretty good reputation for their manifolds and they can be had from $1000-1100. Last edited by Gabriel J; 12-12-2010 at 09:19 PM.

Reply:Full-Race's manifolds are robotically welded which is why they look so awesome.

Reply:wow, I wish I could get my headers to look like that  I notice he does real short welds though... maybe 8 or more per seam it seems... is that ok?miller 330a bp TIGmiller dynasty 200DX TIGmillermatic 185 MIGthermal dynamics cutmaster 101 plasma cuttersnap-on YA5550 plasma cutterhypertherm powermax 30 plasma cutterbaileigh CS225 cold sawetc....
Reply:Those look like SS worms getting their freak on together!!! Nice. And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.

Reply:The biggest issue is that these shops are using normal 304 for 15-1800*F applications.. they crack on a daily basis.
Reply:Look at these gems. Probably the nicest hand welded joints I have ever seen. Also welded by toxicfab. I don't think that the starts and stops are a issue. These are low pressure application and the welds are not cold on the restarts at all, so tying in should not be a problem.

Even my friends 500rwhp FD RX-7 only runs about 1300 *FThe poorly made cheap chinese knock offs crack on a daily basis.Full Race manifolds are made from 304. They hardly ever crack.Toxic Fab makes awesome stuff.. He's on Honda Tech.. 9bells and Agtronic also make as equally astounding products.

Add in E85 or a poor tune, and you're over 1700*.304's strength falters at 1250-1350*F.your buddies 13B runs 1300* because it's drowning in fuel, like all rotaries do. So the extra gas quenches and cools the cylinder.
Reply:The saving grace is the velocity of the exhaust under high boost; IE it doesn't soak up the weld HAZs or other weld joints where the pipe is most vulnerable. There is a reason 304L is around. 304 is just an inferior metal for turbocharged applications.
