im hoping some gurus might have an answer i made my pops a meat press with some flat bar and round stock i know you can season or treat cast iron pans to keep them from rusting up bad can you do the same with steel ? 350P 30A spool gun cut master 51 syncro 250 other stuff " take a dog off the street and make him prosper and he will not bite you sad the same cannot be said for man" i didnt use punctuation just to piss you off
Reply:I'm pretty sure the reason you can do it with cast iron is that the material is 1) rough, and 2) porous. That doesn't mean that you can't butter the heck out of it, put it into a 400-500°F oven for a few hours and keep it from rusting, but, try as it might, steel is not cast iron.
Reply:Sure. Coat with cooking oil or grease or lard or whatnot, heat up, try to get to the temp where the oil/grease turns into a carbon coating on the metal.Just don't use galvanized steel for food use. The best laid schemes ... Gang oft agley ...
