I damaged my backhoe bucket several months back when I removed this gigantic root ball and I finally got around to reinforcing the backhoe bucket today. The backhoe is a several year old Ameriquip 7620 and I believe the welds were faulty but the company wouldn't warranty it. I removed the bucket back then and straightened it, welded it, as best as I could, on the press. The receiver is square and the bucket is a little out of square and the rear I could not get straightened. Anyway, today, I used 1/2", 1/4", and 1/8" flat stock to do the job. I love my new machine, Hobart Champion Elite, although the old' G213 would have managed well, however. Attached ImagesLast edited by Zork; 09-03-2012 at 04:35 PM.
Reply:Do we have to picture this repair in our heads! Any pics!  I hate being bi-polar it's awsomeMy Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys
Reply:Not a damn thing. It is a holiday yaknow......zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Same as Zap, nothing. I thought about fixing the railing on my front steps though.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:These were the welds that failed. The backhoe is a 2004 Ameriquip 7620 with 30 hours. The root ball was large but I operate my equipment gently and at lower rpm's to minimize damage. Attached ImagesLast edited by Zork; 09-03-2012 at 06:04 PM.Reason: who cares
Reply:Don't laugh,..... I had to use my good eye. It was quite the task to straighten it and keep the rails from binding. The rear portion was left concave and I had to build it up with 1/8" spacers. The repair is not perfect or pretty but I think my penetration is better than what I originally had. I'll take advice too; please be gentle, lol. Attached Images
Reply:Dog legs and wedges can help you big time, A dog leg is a piece of plate notched out, then welded to something solid, then tap a wedge through it to help straighten and align what you need. When your done smack em off with a hammer. A lot of times you only need a few strategically placed tacks, so they break off fairly easy.I hate being bi-polar it's awsomeMy Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys

Reply:Originally Posted by dieselamourI'll have to investigate that because I had a tapered gap that was almost 6/16" so I put two 1/8" flats in there. Do you have a link to any information? Thanks.
Reply:I just saw this: Solderer?.......... The nerve!

Momma was quite pleasant but obviously not happy, lol. I'll make it up but working on a Holiday, lol..Yeah, I'll try the welds later this week.

Reply:I went out to my garage today and cleaned up my welder then polished it and waxed it. I then gave it a big Hug and a Kiss then covered it up and put it to bed for the night! Attached ImagesLast edited by Inkydoggy; 09-04-2012 at 02:10 AM.Reason: Forgot the Photo of my Welder

Reply:Well if she does I can Kiss it and make it better!
Reply:Sounds like everyone is on the mark; good going! I may put a 1/2" X 1" flat stock on today at the cold rolled solder bead that failed. The bucket back had a little tear and the reinforcement took care of that, I hope, but the front lip takes allot of tension so I'll put that on before I test it.

Reply:In case anyone sees me in public and wants to say hello I have included a photo of myself. I went ahead and ran a complete bead in case roots or rocks would damage the bucket. I am going to run a full piece across the flange because there wasn't enough clearance to go straight across. Attached ImagesLast edited by Zork; 09-08-2012 at 05:25 PM.

Reply:Best wheel kits I have found are the factory sets from Miller on the old dialarcs and ABP's etc.  I made my welding cart from 1 of them..   I like the auto handle that is spring loaded to upright.  I also put the handle on the rear of the machine so its not in the way of the controls...Tiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250
