Hello all,Wanted to introduce myself with a few project I have built in the past 2 months. Loving the forum so far and love seeing others projects. Just took up welding for the first time 2 months ago and so far,im loving it. Next for me are some torches and after that some gas to move away from flux core welding. My first project after getting a welder and an angle grinder was a console safe.Full size 1911 fits! This fits in my Toyota Tacoma which has 2 bolt in the bottom to bolt this down. 10g. lid, the rest is 12g. Steel hinge, "lip"welded all around, so no screwdriver can easily pry this thing. Cost was around $50 total. Note: I know these welds looks like hell..these where my first welds ever..so you can hold your crap Senor perfect before you post! Grinded and rewelded. After some carpeting..This first post wouldnt be complete if I didnt include a ...next was a projector mount. 2 pipes, spare sqare tubing and some 12g sheet.Probably heavier then the projector..its a beast. No real pictures of this project. But I built a 100x58 inch frame out of 1/2in. tubing. 2 supports going horizontally and a 2 pieces of sheet metal welded to the top of the frame then drilled for mounting on the wall onto 2 wood screws. This is a projection screen on the frame.Eventually became this..Moved on to a multimedia shelf for my reciever, ps3 and other electronics for my home theater. Then I was telling my wife " I need a speaker mount for that new center"She asked" are you going to build it?"I replied "Brilliant"! didnt even cross my mind to build it..Finally, got tired of my holster plastic belt clips breaking often when they snag,so why not fab some out of 12g. metal? They work just as good, but will last me waaay longer!Thats all for now. Next is either a BBQ pit or a fire pit. Need to find the steel for both projects at a good price first...still looking.
Reply:Welcome to the wonderful world of welding and building your own $h!t!!! Ain't it great? I'm always building stuff myself. I got tired of looking at my fireplace grate and chunked it today and built a new one. Got a fire roaring on it right now! Your stuff looks pretty good too. Think about how much those items would have cost if you bought manufactured units! Reply:Man great ideas. I was a taxi driver before I bet you could sell those vault consoles to some taxi companies. I know I may try
Reply:Nice starter projects, they look great. Your doing pretty well for only being at it for 2 months. You are well on your way to some masterpieces.Gordhttp://gordsgarage.wordpress.com/ |
