Door reinforcement

This is supposed to be one of those 5 minute jobs according to the customer. Just fill Iin where it needs it.  I looked at the job and deciced a whole new piece would be the easiest fix.  Customer gave me the template of the lock that goes on the door.  I started with a sheet of 16 ga and went from there.Door was smoking pretty good, but no fire,
Reply:Here is the job and settings.   Wire is Harris .030,  pure Co2.  I used 110 volts for this job.  This is the first money maker OUTSIDE my shop for this machine.  I just bought it last month.  Its the older model so it does not take a spool gun.  I have a spool gun for other machines and never use it.  welds were vertical down...Door is paper thin and I think the welds looked better before I hit them with the flap wheel, but the customer is going to clean up and paint before they install the new lock set.  Total time including a trip back to my shop in the truck 3.5  hours to make the plates (ouch!) .  I did not charge the customer that much,David Real World Weldin'   Last edited by Fred Sanford; 01-06-2011 at 12:46 PM.
Reply:When I remodeled my house, I took all the exterior door jams apart and routed them out and put quarter inch plate inside and reinforced the holes. Its then lagbolt into the stud frame. It would take alot of *** to knock my doors in. Not saying it couldn't happen but your average burglar wouldn't be able to kick it in.
