Just after buying a Evolution Rage 2 Chop Saw with a TCT blade(http://www.evolutiononlineshop.co.uk/rage2355.html), very happy with it's cut. However, its making a bit of a mess, metal filings are all over the place, the abrasive saw wasn't any way near as bad as this one.Does anyone else have a saw like this and a solution to my problem.
Reply:I'd say build a box that contains the rear of the saw so at least everything is somewhat contained, shield it wherever it expels shavings & then vacuum up whatever collects... also always wear eye protection miller 330a bp TIGmiller dynasty 200DX TIGmillermatic 185 MIGthermal dynamics cutmaster 101 plasma cuttersnap-on YA5550 plasma cutterhypertherm powermax 30 plasma cutterbaileigh CS225 cold sawetc....
Reply:Are you serious?  I've had both, and the silty, choking, adhesive-filled dust from an abrasive disk is a hundred times worse than the sawdust-like metal shavings from my cold-cut saw.  I have a Milwaukee, and it has a sliding tray to catch the shavings.  But they're also easy to sweep up off the floor.  Maybe the Evolution is different?I still use abrasive disks occasionally, but I wear breathing protection and have to run the fan to get rid of that muffler-shop smell.  I'd rather sweep up cut metal than breathe it.Jack OlsenMy garage website
Reply:Consider mounting it on top of a barrel with a deflector or shroud to help catch the shavings.  If you are cutting carbon steel a magnet mounted on a pole with a sandwich bag wrapped around it will make picking up the stray shavings easy.  Just take the baggie off and the shavings will drop off without sticking to the magnet."The man of great wealth owes a peculiar obligation to the State, because he derives special advantages from the mere existence of government."  Teddy RooseveltAmerican by birth, Union by choice!  Boilermakers # 60America is a Union.
Reply:I'm gonna agree with Jack, I like my Jancy cold saw way better than the abrasive saws.  My saw has a tray in the bottom that catches most of the little shavings, but they can easily be brushed up with your glove.  Those abrasive saws leaves behind the "steel" saw dust that gets everywhere.
Reply:yeah, I'd say an abrasive chop saw is worse too, the dust is much worse than chips & travels through the air (and lungs) much more... my favorite is my cold saw with fluid, everything is caught in the fluid for no mess...miller 330a bp TIGmiller dynasty 200DX TIGmillermatic 185 MIGthermal dynamics cutmaster 101 plasma cuttersnap-on YA5550 plasma cutterhypertherm powermax 30 plasma cutterbaileigh CS225 cold sawetc....
Reply:Not sure where you have it sitting/mounted now but I suggest a "hopper style" cart. I made a crude one 2 years ago and it's made a HUGE difference in reducing the mess. I only have an abrasive blade so I always cut outside or next to an open door when weather won't permit: http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=26338
