Hello! Everyone I'm new here a WW but have been lurking around about a month learning all I can and have also been following a few others, Like Miller's Forum,Lincoln's Forum and a couple of other welding Forums but this is by far the best Welding Forum on the entire web. The people or very friendly, helpful and willing to share their technique's - the other places seem to think if you don't weld for a living then you shouldn't even be there asking any ? or for their Advice if your a newbie! "What Hypocrites" most of them anyway !!    First My experience is that I did 27yrs in HVAC so I know how to use OA & soldering & Brazing. Iv'e also owned a Lincoln AC/DC Stick for about 30yrs and used them to do my projects all the time but Haven't done of much of anything for the last 8yrs or so!I also Have a 1991 MM200 w/SKP-35 spot Panel? that my F.I.L gave me about (8yrs ago) when I was injured on the job and had to retire! (Severe Broken Neck).   Anyway the ? is should I keep the '91 MM200 about 240Lbs or Buy a new Hobart 187-approx.68Lbs?  Weight is a big concern for me and I could Roll the HH187 around on a cart but the MM200 would have to stay put because even if I put it on a Cart big enough it would be impossible for me to roll around that much weight!! You see I live on 10 acres w/a little 3 acre Pond out back  but there's no Concrete anywhere near my shop (or anywhere on the Property for that matter!  I know there's no comparison between the two welder's but I can't do as much as I once could so I'll basically be using a mig welder to fix my Tractor and other small things around our "Mini Ranch" as my girls call our Place! I won't be welding anything any bigger then 1/4" and if I do happen to need to weld something Bigger I can use the Stick or the MM200 will just be down the street as I'm giving it to my Bro in Law!  Second ?:  I need to weld a a sheet of 3/32" Stainless Steel 21" wide X 44.5" Long which when rolled would give me a cylinder of 18" in circumference and 21"long. I need to weld the 2 - 21" ends together! I've only welded SS once and that was 2 - 8"x8"  5/16" plates to make a Trailer hitch for my 1923 T-Bucket and I used my Lincoln Stick for that job.  I've never done any Mig welding and as I said before nothing much at all on SS and just wanted any advice on which wire (0.30-308?),Gas Mix(75/25?) & maybe Amps/wire speed settings that Y'all would suggest to start ?    Sorry! I wrote such a long letter! Hahaha!     Thank You All !!  Any advice would be greatly Appreciated!Mike E.     "Tell Me,I'll Forget" "Show Me,I'll Remember" "Involve Me,I'll Understand"
Reply:if you want an 18" cylinder use a piece 55-1/2" long..when you put the hh on a cart, what are you gonna pull it with? are there power sources around the place? maybe just get longer leads for the MM?
Reply:i read it again and see you got a tractor..you got enough generator ?

Reply:If you put pnuematic tires under the cart, would that help roll around the yard? The MM200 is a great, reliable machine. If you still have access to it with your B.I.L., then by all means let him hang onto it. MIG is easy to get started in, you already know how to watch a puddle, that much is everything. City of L.A. Reply:Hello! tanglediver The pnuematic tires are a great idea and I think I may have a set of 5" or 6" ones out in the shed! somewhere.       Yea! My brother in law lives 13 acres away and 2 driveways down so I can use the MM220 anytime I'd need to make a bigger weld..  Thanks!Mike E.     "Tell Me,I'll Forget" "Show Me,I'll Remember" "Involve Me,I'll Understand"

Reply:Hello, I just joined up on this forum.  Looks like a great welding forum.  I hope to be able to contribute to the forum.Mike, I have a MM 211.  I built just a simple cart for the mig to set on, and to hang my hoses, and cables on.  I didn't put a bottle on it.  I keep it straped to the wall of my shop.  I made up  30' of gas hose out of some black hose form Napa.  I also have quick disconnects on my hoses like you use on air lines.  So I can connect a long air line hose to my regulator and mig  for a longer reach.  I does make it alot easier for me to roll my mig around without the heavy bottle on the cart. If you would like I could get some pics of my setup.
