Just bought my new ranger 305g. got the lower frame for the base done. Want to put some vertical pieces on either side where i can hang my leads. But havent decided what sort of "hooking" system to use. How do yall hang your welding leads? Any help is greatly appreciated. Pics would be great! Thanks.Ranger 305gMillermatic 140 AutosetDewalt Chopsaw2 grindersMy Fists
Reply:See my similar thread. For hanging, I've seen guys use garden hose hangers... not reels, just hangars that have about a foot of sheet metal formed into a radiused arch that keeps the leads from kinking on a one inch wide hard edged flat bar hook.Hard to find sturdy hose hangers nowadays, but I've seen one or two guys cut a car/truck wheel in half. The drop center of the wheel makes a nice dish to control the wraps of the lead, and the semi circular shape makes for a nice drape on the cable. Those are the only two ideas I've personally seen so far for static lead support.I'm looking into low cost reels to wind the cable up... but am puzzled about how to deal with the machine end of the lead.Respectfully,Charles Brown
Reply:you can take a small, 1" tube steel, run across the top of machine, from left to right, then weld 90 down sides of machine about 8", then 90 out, then 90 up.........get my drift? thats how our leads hang.

Reply:I wont have to worry about thieves. My welder wont be leaving my house anytime soon. But i really need something sturdy. I have 120' of 2/0 ground and positive cables.Ranger 305gMillermatic 140 AutosetDewalt Chopsaw2 grindersMy Fists
Reply:Disc blades and short pieces of 6" or 8" pipe. Can make spools or cut in half for hangers. I have done both.
Reply:Weld some 1" square tubing to the front and back sides of the base frame. Make them about 4' long straight up. Make your self 2 "L" brackets with the same tubing and weld to the uprights.120' of 2/0 cable weights about 150 or so 1lbs. Brace as needed. |
