About 2 years ago I bought the little Harbor Freight O/A torch set that has the 2 bottles in the red plastic carrying case. (This one) I took the bottles to the local Airgas place the next day and then a couple of weeks later finally got around to the project I bought it for.  The torch was a pain to adjust that time, but I finally managed to get what I was working on done.  Put the torch back on the shelf and almost a year passed before I got around to using it again.  This time I decided to trace down the root of why the torch was acting funny.  Turned out it had an internal crack in the handle/valve body that was allowing the O & A to mix in the lines.  Even with both valves on the handle turned off, turning on the pressure on one regulator would raise both lines to the same pressure. So I trashed that torch and a few months ago bought the HF heavy duty welding set (This one).  Got around to setting it up and discovered another problem.  The larger gauges won't fit on my bottles, and the new torch has larger connections so it won't fit on the small hose that came with the other set.So now to my question:  Does anybody know what thread spec is used on those small bottles?  I've seen a whole slough of adapters on E-Bay but I don't know which ones I need.

Reply:The small tank you have is a 10 cf "MC" tank. It should be a CGA 200 valve. A "B" size 40cf tank is a CGA 520 and a full sized tank is a CGA 510. I have seen CGA200 to CGA510 adapters butthey are probably not common as thats a big reg to put on that small MC tank. I do have an MC to B adapter for my air/acet torch and a B to CGA510 to run my big reg on my B bottle in an emergency. Your LWS or Tractor Supply may have these. On the O2 the only one I usually see is a CGA540. There are a few odd O2 fittings for special purpose O2 and medical O2 but you shouldn't have one of those. If you look on the tank valve and on the reg fitting it will have the CGA numbers marked on it clearly. That MC tank is really too small for welding or cutting. I'd go up to at least a B tank or a full sized 75 cf CGA 510 bottle. Attached ImagesLast edited by DSW; 12-09-2009 at 03:11 PM..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Or, go to your local LWS and slam the regs on the counter and say "Adapt me boys!!!"Or!!!!!!!! Take the old regulators if you still have them, and hook up the hose to the new torch, simple."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
