1st repair using Oxy / Acetylene

I bought my oxy/ace kit 13 days ago. I have played with it on a piece of 16 & 22 gauge steel and cut some 1/4 inch plate to get a feel for it. I am reading The Welder's Handbook and these forums to learn what I know thus far, which isn't much. Prior to the past 13 days I have never welded with anything.The pictures are not the best and I will try to get better pics of the finished repair. This creeper has been broken for about 2 years. The factory welds did not get very much penetration onto the cross braces and that is where it broke. There was very good penetration on the tubing but it is much thinner metal.These are not the prettiest but the cross braces are not coming off. I have hit them with a dead blow 3 lb hammer and they are stuck.I expect the repair to last.

Reply:Very nice for a beginner. Those tubes are probably on the thin side which would not be easy when you are learning with o/a.  Keep up those beads and you will pick up TIG well should you decide you want to learn more.
Reply:Tig is coming one day. I am bound and determined to learn the O/A welding before moving on as everything I am told and read says it will help in all other welding types.
Reply:Definitely looks good, especially when you consider the tubing is not only thin, but made out of the cheapest crap the manufacturer could find. If you do decide to move on and go to TIG, you will find the "hand-eye coordination" to be the same.The biggest difference is the heat control. I won't get into that, you'll learn it if you go that route. Reply:Again, thanks. I'll continue playing and then move on to stick. One of my techs had a Lincoln Tombstone sitting in his barn he let me have, didn't know if it worked. It works. After the 225 I have a 180T to learn and THEN I will start looking for a tig. Don't tell the wife but I am already keeping an eye open for the right deal.

Reply:For just starting that looks real good. O/A welding is good to learn. It's how I welded thin metal until I got my mig.
