Hi Folks, I have a cast bronze angel (made in India) a friend gave me to weld the broken wing . Ok , the question is can this be brazed with regular brazing rod and a oxy/acet. setup? Or do I have to breakout the tig machine and what ever filler. and hope to GOD (pun intended) I dont screw it up. Thanks, Wrench.
Reply:Hey wrenchit,Personally, I would consider silver-solder because of the low heat requirement & would give you excellent results. Sil-sol can repair many delicate & tiny items.DennyComplete Welding/Machine/Fab. Reply:Tig is a possibility with silicon bronze rod but as Denny said silver solder is good for delicate stuff especially if you don`t know the exact base metal. The main difficulty you will find with either is color- matching. You will see the repair unless you TIG it with the same or very similar material.
Reply:Bronze; being as "soft" as it is, I would think the coldest (least amount of heat transfer) process would be the best bet."SOUTHPAW" A wise person learns from another persons mistakes;A smart person learns from their own mistakes; But, a stupid person.............never learns.

Reply:I have welded on bronze statues several times, you can braze weld it with sil/bron filler, I have also migged it with sil/bron wire and argon, welds great. use silicon bronze filler so the weld color matchesBTS Welding
Reply:Just out of curiosity how big is the angel and how thick is the are to be repaired?
Reply:EVERDURE or 'Silicon Bronze' is likely your best bet and braze with the OXY / ACE or OXY/LPG. You can also Braze it with the TIG with little issue.ON the other hand, there are a lot of ARTISAN'S who prefer to use COPPER PHOSPHATE 0 (zero, as in NO SILVER) instead of SILICON BRONZE (Everdure). That stuff has a MUCH lower melting temp and is EASILY Brazed, not to mention the better color match than that of 'Silver Solder'.Cheers,/Jman...Miller Diversion 165120 amp Buzz BoxVictor Oxy/Ace Oxy/LPGSmith "Little" Oxy/LPGHypertherm Powermax 30Lot's of Misc. tools n' crap....
Reply:I've also heard of bronze rods for stick... but I'm not sure how small they go, though.
