I recently was given this torch and I want to clean and refurbish it as best I can.  However I don't have any experience cleaning acetylene torches and i'm not sure where to start.  I used the search feature on the site and all I really found was to use 70% rubbing alchohol and a brass wire brush to clean the outside.  The torch is in good working order so I suppose it's mostly cosmetic work I want to do.  I've icluded some pictures of the torch so you guys can see what i'm up against.  Also if anyone has any info on the torch that would be great.  The guy that gave it to me got it from his brother (I think in the 70s) and It was used in the Canadian military for a long time.  Does anyone know if consumables are still available for something like this?  Thankyou for any advice or info you can give me, I'm very excited to have received this torch as it seems to be a very solid peice of equipment and it will likely see alot of use with me.
Reply:I have used Brasso cleaner on all of my torches or Rose buds to clean them and it works well - just takes a little time.  good Luck
Reply:Brasso  works for cleaning. Looks just like the Purox torches I have, they work great and are comfortable to use. Use 4200 series tips. Look on the Esab site for general info and find extra cutting tips on ebay, search Purox and you will find them.IAMAW Local 330Airco 300 AC/DC HeliwelderAirco Dip-Pak 200 with Profax spool gunPowr-Kraft AC225Everlast PowerArc 200stBuffalo Forge No.21 drill pressSpeedglas 9100xxAirco, Oxweld, Purox, Victor torchesLincoln Ranger 8

Reply:I tried brasso and it worked pretty good.  Alot of polishing and a really sore arm later here is where I am.  Still needs a little work but so much better than before, thanks again.

Reply:Nice torch which should serve you well for a lifetime. I really like the ergonomics of those designs. They just "fit" my hand well for a day of cutting.I started my collection with a W-300 cutting attachment, learned more from this forum and the ESAB manual site, and keep adding as I see interesting Purox-family torches. If you want a longer, straight cutting torch which takes the same 4200 tips to complement that one look for a Purox Series E, example pictured below. Don't pay over about 30 bucks for one without accessories, as they turn up steadily.ESAB made a variety of similar torches, and still make some of its relatives.Have some interesting reading: ( ESAB bought Oxweld/Purox/Linde/Union Carbide etchttp://www.esabna.com/...Apparatus_R...ng_Torches.pdfesabna.com/...Apparatus_Repair_Manual/ARM_Sec-F_Cutting_Attachments.pdfhttp://www.sealseat.com/prod01.htmDownload then zoom the interchange chart to view.
