Miller Maxstar 175 worth it?

I found a deal on a Maxstar 175 for $100.00.   I realize it is 3-phase (which I do not have) and I was planning to originally make a 3 phase rotary converter from a 10HP 3PH motor that I have. But, I have seen a link on converting a Maxstar 175 to the 220v 1PH by doing a few simple snips and clips.  Anyone familiar if this will work or not?   Here is the link with good photos and a schematic:http://www.honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=2586267But on another post someone asked about converting this unit and maybe using a different process this is what the poster explained:"The MaxStar 152 / 175 are built with easy to get genaric Intergated Circuits (CMOS)It is basicaly a High Frequeny Switching Power supply. The Factory Schematics are easy to trace . The MaxStar 175 Can be converted to single phase use with output power reduction (about that of a maxstar 152). The Power FET modules would be the most expensive part to replace , and they usually explode and take the drivers with them."and he goes on to say:"The CMOS IC's are 4093 , 4023, 4013 4023, 40106, The Linear IC'a are LF347N , LM7915 , LM7815 , LM311 There are 12 IC's total on the main board. The CMOS and Linear IC's are all very easy to come by. Digikey will have all of thease listed. They may even have the FET power modules. My maxstar 175 does not have the meter option. But I believe the 40 Pin IC for that would be a ICL7106 LCD 3 1/2 digit voltmeter IC. Reply:It sounds like a lot of work, but then again, a hundred bucks for a welder is a good deal.And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.
