anybody have one how do you like it tried searching came up with one post was thinking of getting a miller dig elite but a tru sight just came up on craigs so i thought i would look into it thanks for any input350P 30A spool gun cut master 51  syncro 250 other stuff " take a dog off the street and make him prosper and he will not bite you sad the same cannot be said for man" i didnt use punctuation just to piss you off
Reply:Resurrecting this question, since I am in the same boat.  Have a non digital elite and its seen better days.  back to welding full time now and figure I'm due for an upgrade.  The truesight LOOKS like it will be a good choice but since none of my LWS have one for me to check out I am having to go off pics and reviews. When any government, or any church for that matter, undertakes to say to its subjects, "This you may not read, this you must not see, this you are forbidden to know," the end result is tyranny and oppression, no matter how holy the motives.
Reply:I know its old but if you did not get a new hood yet, I just bought me a new W60 Truesight today.  It's really nice,  I have the same Miller Elite non digital..  The truesight has a huge viewing area.  the buttons for quick select of Grind, Cut, Weld are on the bottom so u can reach under the hood to change with a gloved hand.   Unlike the Miller Elite where u have to take of the glove and helmet to adjust it to grind mode...    The Cut range is 5 to 8 shade.  once you select the shade it defaults to that each time you press the cut button.   Grind is shade 3.   I only played with it for a few mins but I found I could see the HAZ around the tig puddle and see the puddle variation a little better than the Miller. and a lot better than my old Jackson.     I can update once I get some time welding, cutting and grinding with it.   Welding supply sells the front protective lens for $3.99 each and the rear lens for $2.99 each...  also it is solar with AAA battery backup.  no fancy battery needed like miller one..Tiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250
Reply:I used both the other day at work. I bought a new modeI miller digital elite and i use the old modle one at work every day. I rate the truesight third. Most noticably, the truesight has a terribly annoying problem with the hood slowing sinking down and if you tighten it more it's too tight to flip down by using the tipping/jerking/headbanging/whatever method. The new modle digital elite has detents and doesn't have this problem at all, the old modle doesn't have detents but doesnt have this problem. The truesight has a larger viewing area than the millers (which isn't too small by any means). Having gobs of viewing area isn't really beneficial after a certain point since you're focusing on the arc anyway and not your periphery. The millers also have the huge advantage of X-mode (electromagnetic wave detector) where it doesn't rely on the light sensors. This is actually extremely handy if you're welding stuff like exhaust pipe, large diameter, pipe, "inside" or though things where something may be blocking all 4 arc sensors. It's also often times required for outdoor use or when welding near surfaces reflecting sunlight and extremely low current welding. I use/need it enough that it would really suck to not have it.I weighed both on a high accuracy digital scale and the new miller digital elite is slightly lighter than the truesight.New digital elite is also usually cheaper, brand new with the new 3 year warranty for $254 free shipping on ebay.Last edited by MikeGyver; 11-13-2012 at 11:15 PM.Welding/Fab Pics: www.UtahWeld.com
Reply:I have a truesight and have the same problem that MikeGyver mentioned with the headgear adjustment loosening - I'm going to figure out a fix for it one way or another though; I've got it narrowed down to the right knob at this point.  When it's set right, it works really well, so I think it'll be great overall when solved. The yellowy/ambery color is the main thing it's got going for it; I really dig it.  It's really unique among the autodarks (and plain better than a green view, IMHO).  I can't stand the "ratcheting" Miller headgear on the ones I've tried.  The x-mode might save needing to adjust the sensitivity for different lighting conditions every once in a while.  There is a lot of adjustability with the Truesight though - no problems with low amp DC tig if set appropriately.  Speedglas is another one to take a look at, but like the Miller, the view is all green.Last edited by jakeru; 11-13-2012 at 11:51 PM.
Reply:I added the new gen 2 headgear to my Elite. On the jackson u would just need a dremel to make that round opening square with the detents to use a miller headgear on it.   Though I am not that keen on the gen 2 headgear now I used it a bit. Its comfortable to wear but the flexible retaining strap tends to aid in the hood slipping off and makes putting it on with 1 hand rather difficult.    Due to red green color blindness I wanted to try the amber lens on the jackson.      I need to get some time using it to compare the 2 across the different processes...  I didn't notice the problem u mentioned with lowering the hood...  again it will take some use to really evaluate it...  I considered the miller titanium, but the hood looked like it sticks out futher with that flip up cover and puts the lens futher from your eyes.  Also I debated over the external grind button.  As I do a lot of my work in the driveway crawling in, under and around things I was concerned about bumping the button while welding and getting flashed.  I have seen some people complain of bumping external buttons and knobs while welding.   As I can reach up under the Jackson and press the grind button, I think that is the best choice.Tiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250
Reply:X3 on the loosening knobs on the headgear of the Truesight.  On the other hand, I have had a lot of helmets that the mechanism allows the helmet to creep down on you.  The yellow/amber view more than makes up for the loosening knobs.  When you guys design a "fix" for the headgear, be sure to post it.Miller Syncrowave 350Millermatic 252/ 30A spoolgunMiller Bobcat 225g w/ 3545 spoolgunLincoln PowerArc4000Lincoln 175 Mig  Lincoln 135 Mig Everlast 250EX TigCentury ac/dc 230 amp stickVictor O/AHypertherm 1000 plasma

Reply:I noticed no difference in clarity with the orange tinted truesight lens over the green tinted miller lens, it's just a different tint.Welding/Fab Pics: www.UtahWeld.com

Reply:I've had experiences of noticing smoke through the Truesight very readily when TIG welding (such as when oils on the part get heated up), which I've never really noticed so clearly when TIG welding through a green tint lens.I can also see some different oxidation film colors after welding stainless very clearly through the Truesight that I couldn't ever see never see through a green lens - have to flip it up to see. Finally, I can see the glowing red color of steel and stainless through the Truesight much better, which is practical to know for how long to keep shielding gas flowing to prevent oxidation, without overdoing it and wasting time and gas.At the end of the day though, it may come down to primarily being a personal preference type of thing, of simply liking the way things look better through one lens more than another.  I know when I tried and nod my truesight helmet down though, and then I realie that it's actually already down and I'm already looking through it, that is saying something good about its view being very clear.  (And I've never made that mistake through a green lens.)
